Empty apartments left unlocked - safety issue?
I just moved into a studio on the 4th floor of a building in Bed Stuy. The street is okay but there's clearly drug dealing going on. The building was recently remodeled and several units are still empty and the doors are just open. It gives me the creeps at night that someone could slip into the building and then hide out in one of the empty units. Am I being paranoid or should I bug the landlord?

The trash situation in South Williamsburg is catastophic.
How can we fix this? Kent is supposed to be a beautiful street and the amount of trask between south 8th and south 10th is appalling. Open to any and all ideas!

Anyone else notice the sidewalk situation at 5th St & Bedford Ave?
The setup seems to keep getting bigger (the additional tables) and she sits in her car from Jersey while everything continues to take up a big chunk of an already narrow sidewalk. Small tables with people actually vending are one thing, but this setup makes it really hard to walk by. I remember back in 2000 when none of this (except Northside) was here. And I’m just not sure that driving in from Jersey to sell sunglasses to…

Williamsburg street vendor repeatedly blocking sidewalk at 5th St & Bedford Ave
Has anyone else noticed the street vendor at 5th St and Bedford Ave regularly taking up a substantial portion of the already narrow sidewalk with her car, tables, and equipment? She sits in her car and vends while the setup continues to occupy the sidewalk. The setup appears to extend several feet into the pedestrian walkway, leaving limited space for people to pass. I’ve documented the issue with photos. Has anyone…

Cooking Grease Spill in Grand St Bike Lane
Heads up: my bf and I just wiped out in the Grand St Eastbound bikelane approaching Bushwick Ave. Several people came up to us and told us they saw other people go down and that cooking oil was dumped there. We called 311 and they said someone from the Department of Environmental Protection will be here to clean it up within an hour. If we’d fallen 10 feet earlier, we would’ve landed on the cement divider. Careful out there, y’all.

Garbage Situation at 41st and 6th park entrance not improving
Hello all, I am a Sunset Park resident who is tired of the garbage situation on 41st and 6th and trying to get my baby's stroller through the puddles, garbage bags, and stink. It got media attention (most notably in the Gothamist) in early August but the situation has not improved. I think it's partly because the powers-that-be don't seem to understand that daily (and it is actually less than daily) collection is not enough if…

Rats and mice - 7th Ave
We live off of 7th in the south slope neighborhood and we realize that the construction happening on seventh Avenue and the recent storms seem like they are creating more rodent issues for neighbors. We’re seeing rats and mice in broad daylight trying to get into front doors and homes… is anyone else seeing this or facing any issues? We had rodents in our walls for the first time in years. Any tips or tricks are appreciated. Our landlord had our maintenance plug all…

Pothole In Bike Lane in front of 180 Freeman Street
This almost got me killed so beware. Saw another post about road issues which may be related. I didn’t see this defect until it threw me of course while bike riding yesterday. I wasn’t going fast either. Banged up my knees and narrowly avoided getting hit by an oncoming car. Called 311 to report it. Called Emily Gallagher’s office to see if she could facilitate repair and got an answering machine as per the usual. Maybe if people report this…

Sketchy Telephone/Powerline, Monitor & Driggs by School
I keep noticing this telephone pole right at the corner of Monitor and Driggs. It’s on the side right by the elementary school. I stopped walking on that side of the sidewalk when I noticed it. I called 311, 911 and Verizon. Someone came and put a yellow bow on it that has since been torn. I guess all this is to say is, please be careful dropping your kids off (if they go to this school) or walking on this side of the street. I feel like…

Rat poison?
On Greenpoint and Franklin, next to the premier convenience store. I called 311, and they said that the only thing they can do is file a complaint with the health department and have someone follow up within 14 days. Which seems wild to me as these look exactly like the teal and green pellets that can poison and kill dogs and wildlife. Is this rat poison, and if so, is there a better way to report it to the city?

Homeless man got into my building.
This homeless man (most likely from the men’s shelter) got in my building because one of the exit doors is not fully closed when residents exit or enter the building. He made his way in and sat on the steps to smoke a cigarette (building violation), I told him he needs to leave if he doesn’t live in the building and he ignored me. I contacted the super and got kicked out. As I’m heading towards the other entrance, he saw me and run towards me looking very…

How can we get the anyone to care our block keeps flooding?
Every time it rains like five dads go to the corner and clean out the drains because the city doesn't fix it. Our basement has flooded five times in the past two years since we've moved in, and we've hired plumbers and architects to try and fix it, and it still keeps happening. I looked it up and the block (saratoga and bainbridge) used to be a pond in like the 1600s or whatever, but this cannot keep happening with zero response from…

McGolrick is kinda trashy 🚮
Been here for 2+ weeks, so my take is limited to a short timespan but I noticed that the park isn’t really that well maintained. Trash cans are overflowing, people dump ***surprisingly*** large number of things/trash on the entry points, good amount of empty bottles by benches… Is this just the baseline? Is there a community group that pitches in? I’d like to help out :) I’m also tempted to spray-paint via a custom stencil on every other bench “Don’t be trashy. Use…
